digital twins
video installation 2014/15
In the video installation “digital twins“ a lithic putto becomes the source of the art piece. The sculpture is reflected in a glass pane lying on the ground, which turns out, at a second glance, to be a monitor. In the process the actual image merges with animated video sequences into a video collage. The video image thereby depicts decayed/foul fruit and a burning basket whose smoke gradually lets the angel figurine disappear in the reflection.
“digital twins“ refers to the piece “Angolus novus“ by Paul Klee. The putto in “digital twins“ does in contrast to Klee's angels not look at the world with appalled eyes. Instead it has turned itself away from the world and merely looks at its own dissolution. Paradisiac perceptions become mere fiction.
